Since 1974, Currin's Nursery has been providing container woody ornamental shrubs and trees ranging from one gallon to 100 gallon to landscapers, retail garden centers, and re-wholesalers of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.  We grow many of our plants from seed or cuttings so that we know our plants' history from the very beginning to the time it ends up in your hands.

What a difference!

Note that both wax myrtle crops were facing the same direction (and therefore received the wind from the same direction). Pictures were taken on April 13, 2020 at our nursery the day following a strong overnight storm.

The advantages we have seen at our nursery using TopHat(R) Container Stabilizers:

  • Less labor. No more taking an entire day following a storm to stand up overturned plants. Now our crew can focus on other more productive tasks to maintain plant quality and plant more crops.

  • Lower fertilizer bill. We didn’t realize how much fertilizer we lost (and then had to replace) when a plant overturned due to wind. Now we don’t have to replace that lost fertilizer anymore.

  • More sell-able plants. If plants are overturned by wind, they don’t get that good-for-them natural rainfall (not to mention the physical damage the plant might receive). If that’s during the dead heat of summer, sometimes they will get too dry and never recover. Those plants would typically get thrown away. Since we started using the TopHat(R) to stabilize our crops that tend to blow over easily, there are many more in each of those crops that continue to be sell-able.

  • Automatic plant spacing. Around here, we say “You’ve got to get your rows right - straight and true.” You can say that’s a metaphor for life, but we are literally talking about our rows of plants. Because the TopHat(R) stabilizers have a wide stable ring at the bottom, it’s easy to get our rows right.

  • Stackable for storage. Sometimes we grow more plants that need keeping upright than others. When that time comes, we can easily stack the TopHat(R) container stabilizers on top of each other to save room in our storage building.

  • Long Product Life. TopHat(R) container stabilizers are made of heavy gauge galvanized aluminum wire, so they will last us a long time.
